Ek Din movie review:  Romantic movies usually rely on a strong idea of an emotion, a moment, or a relationship that tries to engage you with the film till the end. Ek Din attempts to create its narrative on one such idea: What if love could exist completely, even for one day? 

For those unaware, the film is an official remake of the Thai movie One Day (2016). It comes with a familiar base connected to memory loss, longing, and missed chances under the direction of Sunil Pandey. Starring Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi. It promises an emotional journey set against the beauty of Japan.

The story review cannot move forward without appreciating its core base because it is simple and engaging. 

Ek Din follows Dinesh (Junaid Khan), who is a shy and introverted IT employee. He lives a quiet and almost invisible life because he struggles to express himself and goes unnoticed at work. Meanwhile, the entry of Meera (Sai Pallavi) as a lively and confident colleague changes his routine. 

He silently admires her and lacks the courage to even start a conversation with her. The story took a surprising turn when the office decided to go on a trip to Japan.  During the trip, Meera finds out that her boyfriend is also married and already expecting a child. Heartbroken, she wanders alone one night and meets Dinesh.  

After a few minutes, she gets diagnosed with Transient Global Amnesia (TGA). It is a condition where a patient’s recent memories are wiped out and is limited to retaining the new ones for only one day. This case comes as a surprising opportunity for Dinesh to get close to Meera. 

The story then follows a day filled with shared moments, laughter, exploration, and emotional bonding, while the fear is that Meera will forget everything the next day.

Ek Din movie review: Performance

It is important to praise Sai Pallavi Ek Din performance as it comes out the one of the strongest aspects of the movie. 

Sai Pallavi gives an emotional depth and natural charm to Meera in her Bollywood debut. She manages vulnerability with ease, especially when he finds out about her boyfriend. She showcases Meera’s confusion, heartbreak, and quiet reflection. Her expressions do most of the talking. But her Hindi diction sometimes feels weird, which slightly affects the emotional impact in intense scenes. 

Junaid Khan also did his best as Dinesh with restraint. His efforts make a socially awkward and hesitant man believable in some parts of the movie. But his performance lacks variation. This is because the audience might not get engaged with the character as it stays in the same emotional space throughout the film. 

Kunal Kapoor also delivers a confident performance and fits perfectly in the role. He is one of the reasons to bring contrast to Dinesh’s personality. Kavin Dave, Pragati Mishra, and the other supporting cast fail to create a lasting impression because they have less screen time. 

Ek Din movie review: Technicalities

It is one of the positive aspects of the film.

The cinematography makes the film visually appealing because it captures Japan beautifully. The viewing experience is also boosted with snow-covered streets, calm landscapes, and urban aesthetics. The environment also supports the story’s mood. 

On top of that, the editing also keeps the pace steady. Regardless of a predictable story, the story does not feel stretched. The production design is also neat and completely fits well in the corporate and adventurous environment. 

The music also supports the emotional tone of the film effectively under the composition of Ram Sampath. Ek Din and Khwab Dekhoon mix well with the story’s impact. But none of them are as memorable as expected.

• The screenplay is overly dependent on its sources because some scenes are directly lifted from the original. This is because it fails to offer something new to those who have watched the Thai film. On top of that, a new audience might predict the movie easily, 
• Character development is also another weak point. Dinesh’s decisions usually feel questionable, especially his career and personal choices. 
• The chemistry between the leads is also underwhelming. 
• It also avoids exploring the deeper angle of emotional consequences.

The film successfully offers a soft and emotional premise. But it doesn’t fully deliver on its potential. It works as a light and one-time watch with a few heartfelt moments and a visually pleasing atmosphere. Meanwhile, Ek Din misses being a memorable one because it lacks depth, chemistry, and originality.
