It starts with an unusual mix of tension and humour. It follows Ramakant (Rajkummar Rao), who is a man obsessed with saving every penny. His extreme stinginess turns a simple wedding gift, a toaster, into a centre of Chaos.
The plot takes shape when Ramakant and his wife attend a wedding and gift a toaster. The wedding was called off due to unexpected circumstances. He decides to take back his gift as he does not want to bear the financial loss.
This is because Ramakant becomes desperate to recover the toaster when the wedding is called off. It starts as a harmless mission, but soon becomes a complex situation involving theft, secrets, and a murder case. Ironically, the toaster passes through many hands. And each time he tries to recover it only worsens things for him.
The simple toaster becomes a symbol of his obsession in the film.

Despite uneven writing, Rajkummar Rao stands out in the film. His portrayal of a miser is funny and frustrating, which makes the character believable. Meanwhile, Sanya Malhotra plays his wife with ease. But his role lacks strong development.
Sanya Malhotra as Shilpa (Ramakant’s wife) feels stuck in a monotonous routine. Her interest towards crime stories also includes a unique layer to the character.
Archana Puran Singh, Abhishek Banerjee, and Seema Pahwa also add interesting elements to the movie. But their characters are not explored fully. Some performances feel unused because of the weak writing.
Archana Puran Singh surprises, especially with a bold and unconventional role to bring energy to the screen. Yet, her character arc is inconsistent. Abhishek Banerjee and Seema Pahwa also come with their own quirk.
Upendra Limaye gives some stability to the early parts of the film. But Farah Khan’s riot cameo fails to make a lasting impact on the narrative. In short, the supporting cast had potential. But the lack of strong character development affects their overall performance.

Toaster Movie Review: Verdict
It starts with relatable humour but begins struggling after 30 to 45 minutes of its run. The first half gives real humour and relatable middle-class situations. Meanwhile, the second half shifts into a confusing mix of crime and dark comedy that loses its real charm.
The second half takes a different direction as it moves towards the crime and mystery. The film focuses on blending multiple genres at a time in the latter part. Instead, the direction falls to entertain the viewers.
The screenplay becomes repetitive. And the humour fades as the story stretches unnecessarily. Although a few dialogue lands well, many of them felt forced in the overall scene. The film also works decently. However, editing and background score fail to boost the narrative.
The cinematography is decent because it captures the environment effectively. Dialogues are a mixed bag, as some lines make you laugh. Instead, most of them feel forced and unreal.
Similarly, the direction also shows the teaser of creativity in the first half. But it could not maintain consistency throughout the film. Although Rajkummar Rao’s performance and some humorous scenes make it enjoyable, it does not fully deliver on its potential.
Toaster movie has an interesting idea and a strong lead performance. But inconsistent writing is the biggest negative point of the film. It works as a one-time watch for its enjoyable moments. It could have more engaging experience with a tighter script and clearer focus.
