The upcoming romantic comedy Prem Keetanu has now become an online controversy even before its teaser release. The makers of Veer Pahariya’s movie recently released its teaser and gained mixed reactions online. Although some viewers are excited about this movie, many netizens criticized the project for remaking one of the most loved Malayalam movies, Premalu.
The situation also became intense when viewers noticed Premalu’s removal from JioHotstar. As the removal happened after the release of Prem Keetanu’s teaser, viewers are now connecting it with the teaser and questioning the decision.
Prem Keetanu Teaser Gets Mixed Response
The Prem Keetanu Teaser came out on Monday, where it introduces Veer Pahariya as a college student. His character appears with an unusual hairstyle in a youthful romantic drama with humour and confusion.
Aafiya Sayed, Aparshakti Khurana, Rakesh Bedi, and Nikhil Vijay are playing important roles in Apoorv Singh Karki’s directorial. The Hindi version follows the basic atmosphere of the original with some changes to the settings and their relationships.
Although the leads meets in the later life in the original, the Hindi adaptation brings them close during their college life. Viewers are already comparing both films. Viewers feel that the Hindi version can’t match the charm of the original. But others are still waiting for the complete film before forming their opinion.

The bigger discussion started when viewers recently noticed that Premalu was no longer available on JioHotstar. It was previously available on it in Malayalam, Tamil, and Hindi.
The Telugu version, however, is still available on Aha. the filmmakers nor JioHotstar has revealed an official statement on Premalu’s removal yet. As Prem Keetanu is based on the Malayalam hit, some viewers still believe that the original should be available for the audience to revisit it.
Several reactions surfaced on the social media platform X after the removal. They called it absolute nonsense and demands the platform bring it back.
Users also criticised the Hindi adaptation itself. Some compared Veer Pahariya’s character with Naslen's popular role from the original. They even expressed their disappointment with the content in the teaser.
What Made Premalu So Popular?
Premalu has been directed by Girish AD and stars Nasan and Mamitha Baiju in the leading roles. Sangeeth Prathap, Akhila Bhargavan, Shyam Mohan, Meenakshi Raveendran, Mathew Thomas, and Althaf Salim are also in important characters.
Young Malayalis are the movie’s centre, as they move to Hyderabad for work. They slowly become involved in a sweet and complicated romance. The younger audience becomes connected due to its relaxed humour, natural performances, and chemistry.

When Will Prem Keetanu Release?
It is scheduled to hit cinemas on October 2, 2026. It may target an audience looking for a light romantic film with its young cast.
Netizens are, however, disappointed over Premalu’s sudden removal from the streaming platform. The makers haven’t addressed the online criticism regarding the teaser or Premalu's removal from JioHotstar yet.
It would now be exciting to see if the Hindi adaptation would recreate the magic of its original after the release of Prem Keetanu. As the original is still fresh in viewers’ minds, Prem Keetanu will have to deal with the original fans' expectations when it reaches the theatre in the upcoming October.
