Dadi Ki Shaadi Movie Review: Nowadays, family entertainers with an emotional theme have become rare in the cinema landscape. And Dadi Ki Shaadi enters with warmth, comedy, and a socially relevant message together under the direction of Ashish R Mohan. The movie revolves around loneliness in old age, family relationships, and the idea of finding companionship later in life. 

Neetu Kapoor's return in the main role is the biggest attraction of this movie. But Kapil Sharma and debutant Riddhima Kapoor Sahni also shine with their screen presence. On top of that, the film tries to mix emotional family tensions with humour while addressing a unique concept of remarriage of elderly citizens under the scenic backdrop of Shimla.

Dadi Ki Shaadi Movie Review: Overview 

The Dadi Ki Shaadi Movie revolves around an elderly woman, Vimla Ahuja. She shocks her family by announcing her decision to remarry. Although her children were busy with their lives, they suddenly gathered in Shimla after learning about this unexpected news. 

After that, it follows a combination of family drama, emotional confrontations, light-hearted comedy, and discussion about companionship in old age. The film aims to present modern family realities and hold onto old emotional values. 

The first half is indeed energetic and entertaining due to the clash between personalities inside the family. Meanwhile, the second half loses its grip because it shifts towards sentimental drama.

The story starts in the beautiful hills of Shimla, where Vimla Ahuja lives alone in a luxurious cottage-like home. Although she has her children and grandchildren, Jeevan and Nagendra, and daughter Sunaina, are busy with their own families and careers. 

The story took a dramatic turn when she posted on social media that she is getting married again. The entire family was shocked by her decision, especially because her granddaughter Kanika is about to get engaged to Tony Kalra. Tony is shown as a cheerful man who has loved her for years. 

Vimla’s decision brings tension between both families. Everyone rushes to Shimla because they believes its an embarrassing step. Retired Colonel Theeran Devrajan soon enters the narrative as Vimla’s possible life partner. Old frustrations within the family come out as the wedding preparation starts. 

The best part of the story is that it tries to show society’s attitude toward elderly people. The film asks the audience whether emotional partnership becomes unnecessary after a particular age. But the screenplay becomes repetitive after the first half. 

On top of that, it also becomes more layered because the movie switches between comedy and emotional manipulation constantly. Some moments are genuinely touching. But a few of them become overly stretched for dramatic effect.

Neetu Kapoor is indeed the backbone of the film as she delivers a graceful and mature performance as Vimla. Her efforts give depth to Vimla’s loneliness and emotional needs. She manages to talk about sadness, frustration, and warmth in silence. 

Besides Kapoor, Comedian Kapil Sharma also surprised as he plays Tony with sincerity and emotional excellence instead of relying on loud comedy. His comedy timing also works well. But the film allowed him to handle emotional scenes with more maturity. 

Sadia Khateeb also plays Kannu with simplicity and emotional honesty. However, the writing made her chemistry with Kannu a bit uneven, 

Meanwhile, R SarathKumar gives dignity and calmness in the role of Colonel Theeran. His chemistry with Neetu Kapoor is mature and real. But the screenplay fails to explore the emotional depth of their relationship. 

Riddhima Kapoor Sahni also becomes the highlight of the film in her acting debut. She performs decently and seems confident on screen. But her role lacks strong development. The screenplay also gives her limited chances to leave a lasting impact. 

Deepak Dutta, Jitender Hooda, Tejaswini Kolhapure, and Aditi Mittal also add a noisy family environment effectively as a supporting cast. Similar to Sahni’s role, many supporting characters feel underwritten and exaggerated. 

Dadi Ki Shaadi Movie Review: Technical

The film benefits greatly from the scenic beauty of Shimla visually. The cinematography also captures the hills, cottages, and family environment comfortably. Many scenes have the visual feel of an old family gathering. 

The dialogue sounds conversational and relatable instead of overly dramatic. The emotional moments feel more natural because humour mainly comes from daily family arguments.

The soundtrack supports the film’s emotions. Senti and Suno Na Dil are examples of some songs that mix well with the narrative without disturbing its flow. The background score also works effectively throughout the film. 

The editing is one of the biggest drawbacks of the film. Many scenes are longer than necessary. Some emotional scenes could have given the desired impact if they had tighter pacing. Meanwhile, the film also struggles with the tonal balance because some scenes are there where comedy feels forced, and some of them have excessive melodrama.
