Legend Saravanan is back on the screen with the Leader Movie in a spy action thriller. It comes with a combination of high-stakes missions and cute father-daughter moments. Leader movie review: Overview

The runtime of the movie is around 136 minutes. However, it follows an undercover agent who tries to forget his dangerous past. Saravanan is seen as a man named Shakthivel who lives silently in Tuticorin with his young daughter.

His life looks peaceful until rising crime in the city pulls him back into the world that he doesn’t want to remember. His ability to balance his mission and protect his family is the basis of the Leader movie. 

Story and Screenplay: Familiar Yet Engaging Setup

The narrative starts in Tuticorin because Shakthivel lives as a mechanic there & illegal activities happen through the port.  Devil (Santhosh Prathap) controls most of the underworld operations as a ruthless figure. 

Meanwhile, Indra (Andrea Jeremiah) and SP Bakthavachalam (Shaam) are the police officers who struggle to find the growing danger. 

Director Durai Senthil Kumar creates the first half with steady momentum. He introduces characters naturally and sets up tensions that result in strong interval scenes with mass action. Many viewers will love the things, keeping the pace moving without unwanted delays. 

The second half changes into a flashback part. It shows Shakthivel’s past as Ponmaara. He was a skilled spy working under Sathyamoorthy, whom Lal brings to life. The director connects both timelines effectively through clear twists. 

Some scenes in the second half feel a little uneven in pacing. And the consistent action and rising tensions help maintain interest. 

Overall, the screenplay stays loyal to the commercial spy thrillers and adds enough emotions to make the characters relatable. On top of that, it also leaves the story incomplete. It means that there is a possibility of another instalment. 

Saravanan’s Performance: Noticeable Growth as Hero

Saravanan shows clear improvement from his last work in the Leader movie. He handles the action scenes with better confidence and brings genuine emotion to scenes involving his daughter.  The father-daughter bond creates a sweet core that many viewers will love, even if some scenes depend toward dramatic expressions. 

Saravanan ignores extra heroism most of the time. His character feels more grounded compared to his past portrayals. Although there is scope for a deeper emotional range in some scenes, his sincere effort stands out. Especially the interval scene highlights his screen presence during high-energy moments. 

Apart from Saravanan, Lal gives a commanding performance with natural authority. Andrea Jeremiah and Shaam also play cope role comfortably and contribute to the investigation tension. 

Santhosh Prathap makes a convincing villain with the right amount of emotion. Payal Rajput and Baby Iyal join in the flashback scenes to give a solid presence.

Technical Aspects: Music, Action, and Visuals

Through the Leader, Ghibran’s background music works well. It creates tension during important scenes without overwhelming the dialogue or visuals. Also, the songs support the story instead of slowing it down. 

Cinematographer Venkatesh made the coastal Tuticorin environment and gives action blocks engaging clarity. The location also adds a realistic touch to the crime and spy elements. Stunt Choreographer Mahesh Mathew also deserves a special mention in this Leader movie review. His efforts made fighting scenes feel realistic and well-executed. 

The film maintains decent production values. From portside chase to intense confrontations, the technical team ensures the visuals remain engaging across the run. 

Strengths and Areas for Improvement

The Leader movie succeeds as a straightforward entertainer that mixes action with family emotions. The movie keeps the audience hooked through suspense, twists, and dramatic moments. Those who enjoy spy thrillers with emotion will find it a satisfying watch in theatres. 

Minor pace dips in parts of the second half prevent it from reaching higher levels. Yet, the strong pre-interval stretch and engaging the third act compensate for these disadvantages. The director’s ability to link past and present through smart playthroughs also boosts the overall experience. 

The best thing about the Leader movie is that it adopts audience preferences and gives the masala elements fans wanted. Saravanan’s character also lightly questions some modern viewing habits.

The movie comes out as a decent commercial spy action drama that entertains without reinventing the wheel. Saravanan is seen as having a more mature and human approach in his second film as the lead hero. The supporting cast, solid action choreography, and effective music boost it.
