After years of rumours, there is finally official confirmation about the much-awaited 3 Idiots sequel. Aamir Khan has confirmed that the film is in active development. It brings fresh excitement for the audience who still consider the 2009 blockbuster the finest entertainer.

Aamir Khan shared in an interview with Amar Ujala that the filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani is now working on the sequel. On top of that, he has listened to the story, and the idea has impressed him. 

He said, “Raju is working on 3 Idiots 2 right now. I’ve heard the story, and it’s wonderful.”

Aamir further revealed that the screenplay still needs further work. But the main concept is already strong. He described it as unusual, entertaining, and filled with the same humour as the 1st film. 

This is the clearest update regarding 3 Idiots 2, as the last reports were mostly based on rumours. 

Fans also hoped the team would reunite after years because the chemistry between the lead actors was a big strength of the original movie. As Aamir is now speaking openly about it, confidence in the sequel has grown broadly.

During the same interview, Aamir Khan shared that the story would take a time jump of around 10 years. 

It means that the film might revisit the lives of Rancho, Farhan, and Raju after a decade. Viewers might see how their career is developed. And it would also be interesting to see whether their friendship bond remains strong or changes with time. 

Although 3 Idiots was heavily dependent on student life, pressure from family expectations, and finding passion over forced success.  Its sequel might explore career stress, parenting, technology, changing values, and personal growth. 

Aamir has also confirmed that he would return as Phunsukh Wangdu (Rancho). It is one of the memorable twists in the original movie. And fans are eager to know what the brilliant inventor will do after 10 years.

He mentioned that the planned biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke has been paused for now as the script needs more work. He shared that Hirani has written many drafts on the same, but he put it on hold as he was not satisfied. That is because he started working on the 3 Idiots sequel now. 

Aamir is also managing his production work. He is currently promoting Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi starrer Ek Din, which is set to release on May 1. He is also working on multiple projects. 

Despite the busy schedule, his comment on the 3 Idiots sequel has delighted his fans.
