Vincent D’Onofrio Reacts to Kingpin Spider-Man Crossover Delay

Vincent D’Onofrio has sparked fresh debate after calling out the Marvel-Sony rights issue blocking a live-action Kingpin vs Spider-Man showdown fans have been waiting years to see.

The demand for a live-action showdown between Kingpin and Superman has come back to the spotlight. Shockingly,  Vincent D’Onofrio himself has desired it. For those unaware, he has played  Wilson Fisk in Daredevil: Born Again. He expressed his frustration over the ongoing right conflict that has been stopping fans from wanting for years. 

His statement came shortly after the premiere of Season 2 on Disney+. In that, he doesn’t hold back while replying to a fan online. “If Sony and Marvel ever get their sh*t together maybe. It’s a complicated rights issue. Hope so,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

It's not the creative difference. Instead, it’s a legal battle that is blocking the merger. 

That difference makes a situation where both studios must agree before any combined storyline can come forward. Although Spider-Man has appeared in Marvel Cinematic Universe films before, those deals were limited and carefully negotiated.

Kingpin sits in a grey corner. He’s deeply connected to Spider-Man in the history of comics. But his current live-action version only belongs to Marvel TV. A fresh agreement covering everything from profits to creative control would be needed to bring him into the Spider-Man world. 

Kingpin’s Power Shift in Daredevil: Born Again

This timing for this debate isn’t random. This is because Vincent D’Onofrio has just returned in a bigger and more dangerous version of Wilson Fisk.

As of now, Kingpin is no longer operating from the shadows in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. He is currently the mayor of New York City. And using political authority to control the city while running a brutal Anti-Vigilante Task Force.

This change makes him more dangerous than ever. Instead of a crime boss hiding behind the scenes, he has now emerged as a public power and legal influence. That development has already raised the stakes and makes the idea of a Spider-Man clash even more interesting. 

The Long History Behind Kingpin vs Spider-Man

For many decades, fans have been waiting to see this rivalry play out in live action. Kingpin is one of Spider-Man’s most iconic enemies in Marvel Comics. 

Their dynamics work due to their differences. Although Spider-Man depends on agility and anonymity, but Kingpin dominates through influence and control. In short, it’s a battle of physical skills versus power, along with reach. 

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is the only time the audience has seen them together onscreen. However, it was an animated movie, where Liev Schreiber gave his voice to Kingpin. That version has only given a teaser of what the rivalry could be. 

Meanwhile, fans are still waiting to see the character in a live-action version featuring Tom Holland.

Set to release on July 31, 2026, Sony is already building strong hype for the next chapter in the franchise with Spider-Man: Brand New Day. It is coming back with Tom Holland alongside Zendaya and introduces new faces like Sadie Sink.

Still, there’s no confirmation that Kingpin will be seen in the film. That absence might become a missed chance, especially when both characters are active and at peak popularity.
